Cavalier King
Charles Spaniel Products for Dogs and Owners
Hi,
I am a
Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and my name is
Holly. I am a pure bred, AKC registered Cavalier Spaniel and am proud
of it.
On the pages to
follow, I give my recommendations
for all kinds of Cavalier King Charles Spaniel products and where to
get them.
But first, let me tell you a little bit about my self.
It’s not much of a secret that I use my incredible ability as
a
cute
Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and combine it with my immense willpower to get
what I want,
when I want it and how I want it.
Of course, food is a top priority. Human food is the best with my
doggie biscuits coming in a close second. Popcorn is the number one
human food that I like but since I have the unfortunate habit of
swallowing it whole when I can get it, my humans don’t let me
have it often.
Since my owners only feed me dog food once a day, I have to ever watch
carefully for OOPSies. (that’s when one of my humans
accidentally
or ‘accidentally’ drops a piece
– the female
one
is much better at the ‘accidental’
droppings then
the male. It must be something in the genes).
I do get biscuits fairly often. They think they trick me at night when
it’s time to go into my crate. The male one throws a biscuit
in
and I obediently trot in to get it. They think they’re
tricking
me but I know better. I could get out if I really wanted to!
I also have them trained to give me biscuits when I do something really
heroic, like putting up with getting my hair brushed, taking a pill,
getting my flea medicine and other things like that. Sometimes they
forget to give me my treat and need to be reminded, so, I’ll
bark
and run to the pantry (that’s the big hole in the wall
dedicated
to holding my treats). A gentle reminder is usually all
that’s
needed, hey – what can you expect they’re only
human and I
love them.
I love
being photographed. Let
me continue telling you about myself
with pictures. (In some of these pictures, you will see me in my hippie
– long hair days. It gets pretty hot around here so my owners
sometimes get my hair trimmed up real nice and close.) Here I
am
after a new hair cut.
Another thing I love are my toys. Let’s be honest, I have
more
toys than I can keep track of. See, the thing is, when I get a great
new toy I don’t chew on it — it’s too
valuable. I
hoard most of my toys away in various corners throughout the house.
Then I often randomly stumble across one or two and am shocked to find
such a treasure. If only I could remember where I put these
things… but I am getting older. I’m almost 7!
In addition to my toys and biscuits, there is one more thing that I
love (and I'll mention it here in case you miss it on the other page)
- I love those Greenie toothbrush treats.

I think
we all know
who is the greatest threat to my prize. The CAT. Yes, one of them
lives
in the house. I really have no idea why they keep him around. We
don’t have mice. Even if we did, I’m certain I
could catch
them well enough to keep there from being the need for a CAT.
Besides that, all he does is lie around. Lie around and watch my toys
from a distance. I can see him plotting. I see the way he looks at my
bone. That’s why I have to watch it, carefully. You see,
those
are MY toys which I greatly value and must watch them constantly. In
this picture you can see me with some of my favorite toys. See
those beady eyes in the back? You know who that is watching my toys!
You may wonder if I have any unusual quirks. Well I have one. I am
totally mesmerized and crazy about reflections. I go nuts when I see
reflections from the sun or a light. I chase it and jump at it and lick
it and bark at it, but somehow I never seem to get it. Then, there are
some young boys in this family who simply are mean to me and make me
run up and down the hall chasing this little red dot from one of their
pens. They think it is funny but I take this chasing reflections
seriously.
I hate
to admit it, but I do
have one bad habit in addition to this one quirk. (not bad
for a little princess). I love to go out in the yard and roll in the
yuckiest, rottenest thing that I can find. It doesn’t happen
too
often but once in a while I find a pile of decaying leaves or dead
worms or something very comparable to this yuck and I just roll over
and rub in it as much as I can. Just as a pig enjoys rolling in mud, I
enjoy rolling in yuck. As you can imagine my master gets furious with
me about this because he has to bathe me. Now I don’t
particularly love baths but I can endure them because I know I will get
a biscuit when I am done. See I win on both accounts!! (and the one
young boy in my family says I am dumb! HA!) Here I
am after a bath waiting for my treat.
I talked above what I love. There are only a few things that I hate.
One is the door bell. You can do almost anything and I will never bark.
But you ring that bell and I go ballistic. I just can’t stand
that noise --- although I do love getting company and having someone
pet me.
The other major thing that I hate is
going to the vet. Now
let me clarify that. I
don’t mind my Doctor visits too much (because I can get
treats
there) but I absolutely cringe at the thought of having to be boarded
there for any length of time. I get totally bummed out and will try
anything to get myself out of there. This here picture shows
some
of my feeble attempts to get out.
I have never won this battle yet. So sad :(
They say you can’t “teach an old dog new
tricks”.
Well as I said above I getting pretty old for a dog, perhaps you might
say middle age. Until recently, every time my family would go away for
long periods of time they would either have someone house sit with me
(and the CAT) or I would be taken to the vet for boarding. Then about
three months ago, for the first time ever, my family took me along on a
trip to visit that young girl that
used to live with us. In preparation for the trip, my masters gave me a
nice afghan and the whole back seat to sit in. If must I say so myself,
I
traveled very well. I slept most of the way and did not bark or jump
around or pest them in the least bit. They were very proud of me.
Then a little while later my masters went a way for a few days and left
me with the little boy that teases me all the time. Well he decided to
go see his brother. He knew he couldn’t leave me home alone
so he
took me along. Again, I was very good during the trip and my visit with
the other boy!!
Based on these two experiences I now know if the humans are packing
lots of bags and snacks and sticking them into the car -- that a long
trip is involved and I will be going along! Yippee!!!
Well I
thought that would be
the case. Just recently my one master and
that young boy that teases me, were packing lots of things in bags and
then started to load these things in the car. Well, I learned, based on
my earlier two trips that this meant I would be going on the trip also.
Here I am getting ready to get in.
Wrong!!
I must say
that I was heart broken to find out that my other master was not going
on the trip and would be home in a little while to keep me (and the
CAT) company. I sulked the whole afternoon by sleeping in my
masters’ bedroom. Here I am again ready to go
and 'in the driver's seat.'
I guess that covers the highlights of my life. If any other Cavalier
King Charles Spaniels have any exciting or common interests just e-mail
